Yankees Down Sox 9-1 Montero Leads Way

As I write this post game blog Brian Chashman is somewhere saying I told you so to everyone out there. The coveted prospect, the untouchable one, Jesus Montero, has done nothing but prove to the world why he was one of the most sought after prospect and why Chashman refused to trade him, no matter what. Montero made his big league debut in the September call-ups and as literally done nothing but hit… and hit…. and hit. He has a .346 BA, 4 homeruns (all against righties), and a .414 OBP. He has provided a huge spark for the Yankees and has given them something they haven’t had all year, a consistent DH. He did it again today going 2-3 with 4 RBI and a home run. I think at this point it is all but official that he will be on the post season roster.

Now for the game Jon Lester was hit early and hit often going a season low 2.2 innings giving up 8 hits and 8 runs. The Captain came through with the big blow, a 3-run home run in the 2nd inning. The Yankees didn’t need much as Freddy Garcia looked as good as he has in a long time going 6 innings of 6 hit no run baseball. Russel Martin also had a 2 RBI double in the second inning, and that paired with Montero’s big day was all the scoring. The Sox only run came in the 7th on a Crawford RBI double, other than that their bats were held in check all day.
The Yankees and Red Sox play a day/night double header tomorrow and the Yankees will try to push the Red Sox out of the playoffs.

Game Postponed

Tonight’s series opener against the Boston Red Sox has been postponed due to rain. The Yankees put the decision in the hands of the Red Sox if they wanted to push through and get the game in, or to play a DH on Sunday. They Sox chose the latter, most likely to ensure Lester’s outing would not be cut short due to delays.

Tune in tomorrow for updates on the game

Yankees in the playoffs

With a victory in the first game of the day/night double header, the New York Yankees have clinched a playoff spot for the 16th time in the last 17 years. Eduardo Nunez hit the game-tying homerun off of James Shields to lead off the 8th, then Cano drove in two a few batters later with a double to wall. Rivera came in a closed out the 4-2 victory for his 603 career save. With a win in the night game and a Red Sox loss, the Yankees will clinch the American League East.
